- Collect data to identify areas for improvement within an organization's IT infrastructure
- Apply data science techniques
- Develop and implement a strategic blueprint to deploy databases within the organization
- Develop and maintain computer databases
- Document customers' requirements for projects
- Document reporting needs, queries, logic, results and recommendations to other information systems professionals
- Enact measures to prevent unauthorized data access
- Liaise with staff on data requirements, collection and availability
- Provide advice to informatics professionals regarding database management tools
- Set up the IT infrastructure to allow applications to access databases
