Master's Thesis Worker, Model Based Definition (MBD)

Role Overview

Wärtsilä seeks a Master’s Thesis Worker to join the Engineering Innovation & Advanced Concepts team, working on thesis topics directly connected to customer delivery projects. The role is based in Finland with the MBD team located primarily in Vaasa. Thesis work may be conducted partly remotely, but periodic on‑site work in Vaasa is required for collaboration and pilot activities. The thesis duration is approximately 6‑8 months, with a flexible start.

Responsibilities

• Apply and validate Model‑Based Definition (MBD) in real engineering contexts.
• Study the use of MBD as part of modern mechanical design practices.
• Understand how design definition information flows from design to downstream stakeholders.
• Identify factors that influence successful adoption of MBD.
• Structure findings into usable insights and guidance for engineering contexts.
