PhD Position in Numerical Modelling of Debris Flows
The Chair of Engineering Geology (Prof. Dr. Jordan Aaron, Geological Institute) is looking for a creative and motivated PhD candidate with a strong interest in fluid mechanics and numerical modelling. The position is expected to start in September 2026 and is fully funded for 4 years.
Job description
You will develop a new coupled solid/ fluid mechanics-based numerical model to simulate the motion of debris flows 
You will incorporate field data currently being collected at numerous locations around the world to validate the new numerical model 
You will combine the numerical model results with field data to further our understanding of the motion of debris flows

Profile
MSc in Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or related fields
Strong background in numerical modelling
